The PS2 Discord Home hot new top. This subreddit is dedicated to the best selling video game console in history, Sony's Playstation 2. We are all about the games, discussions, news, questions or suggestions related to the PS2. Tell us what you love(d) about it, what game you hated, when you first got your system, or if you're completely new to it!
Edit: To clarify. From what I remember, you couldn't delete dummy data, only shrink dummy data. Some dummy data may contain crucial files, but very few games have dummy data that did. Rogue Galaxy might have been one of the few exceptions but it's been so long I can't recall. So if it's plain dummy data you want to shrink, one known way was to: 1.) Open Notepad (yes, that notepad in Windows) 2.) Press space in notepad 3.) Rename this file to the dummy data's name and its file extension 4.) and save your file over the dummy data you want to replace Now how to rebuild a PS2 game with a modified dummy data, you should google that (I doubt I could mention it here). I don't think shrinking the dummy data in God of War is enough to make it fit a single DVD so I would still suggest using a patch or ripkit (whatever it's called today) to do so. PCSX2[/B] + Native 1080p support, and beyond.
+ Works with any USB/bluetooth controller, wireless or not. + Minimized load times + Region free + Disc free game browsing + Potentially the best platform for PS2 titles. - Requires patience; it can take a few hours to establish an optimal plugin setup, and new builds are released regularly. - Requires mid-to-high-end PC build, with an emphasis on a fast CPU clock speeds (3Ghz minimum), as well as multiple cores - Minor controller input lag - Only a select few titles (FFXII, Persona 3/4 etc.) work with nary a glitch or crash. - Just 50% of the PS2 library playable, although this number is rapidly rising. If the developers ever really get the compatibility into a respectable state, PCSX2 will be by far the best way to play PS2 games in the HD era, since it actually runs the games at a higher resolution, which the PS3 BC does not.
I have the 80GB MGS4 bundle PS3 with partial BC and it's really disappointing, I get as much input lag from the PS3 as I do from just using my PS2 with HD Loader and letting my TV scale it because PS3's BC buffers 5 frames to deinterlace the 480i PS2 output anyways. I've tested my PS2 with HD Loader and my PS3 a fair amount using Gradius V and the reality is that the best input lag is achieved with the PS2, and my TV set to Game Mode and bypassing my receiver (which also tries to scale things for me).

I also got super excited when I first learned about this a few days ago, until I checked the website and learned that: 1) The compatibility list on PS3 is laughable, or at least it seemed so. Only a handful were indicated to be working. 2) You need a retail copy of Swap Magic 3 (I think it was that) disc. It is really interesting and impressive though that they got USB/Network loading working on the PS3, but I guess it's strictly working in PS2-mode, so it's not THAT impressive.
They haven't hacked the PS3's defenses, just the PS2 inside it. Sorry for late reply. Did you solve this yet? The way I do it is convert the save to.sps then convert it to a regular ps2 save and load it to memory card using FreeMcboot's filebrowser. You'll need two programs. They are PS2 save builder and sharkport save converter.
If you google these tools, you should be able to find out where to get them. Open the yakuza 2 save file with ps2 save builder.
The save builder will open it up and show data for the game. You should be able to save as now. Save it as the.sps extension. Now use sharkport save converter to open the.sps file. Once opened you can hit the convert button and it'll convert the save to ps2 format.
Transfer that loaded save to a usb card and then plug it into ps2 and boot up ulaunchelf. From here just transfer the save to ps2 memory card. I've just discovered the joys of HD Loader. Judging from the date of the average message board post that helped me install it, I'm about 6 years late to this party. Having DQVIII and FFXII: International on tap is a godsend. Feels like I'm playing cartridge versions, thanks to how fast and quietly the games now load.
I'm using the official 40GB Hdd that came with FFXI way back. And it used to let me backup saves from PS1/2 memory cards (not to mention play FFXI). After I installed HD Loader, the Saves/FFXI were still on my harddrive.
But after installing a few of my Japanese games via my network. The Saves/FFXI were gone!
What a shock to lose 10+ years of PS1/PS2 data at once I'm over it I guess. But I want that function back! Is there anyway I can use HD Loader AND keep the ability to backup saves? I believe I do have all the discs that came with the FFXI package back in the day. So I could probably reformat the Hdd back to 'official' use. But can I preserve that whilst using HD Loader?? The other option is that, if it's not possible to have both, I think I need to reformat the Hdd to nothing, since the FFXI data still seems to be taking up Hdd space, even though it's not accessible.
