Due to where I live I have a severely limited data cap. Therefore it's not feasible for me to Stream full length movies. Thanks to some asinine reasoning from Google they won't allow anyone to download movies to watch offline unless it's a mobile device or their Chromebooks with ChromeOS. I need a way to be able to download and watch my movies and television shows offline on my PC.

The only solutions I could think of would be to install Chrome x86 x86_64 in a VM which I tried initially but it was flaky and didn't work out so my. My next solution would be to download to an android device, locate where the movie was saved and strip out drm if possible. I thought that perhaps it would be possible to trick Google Play into thinking I was using Chrome on ChromeOS allowing me to use the Chrome app to download and watch offline. While it sounded like it would work at first I realized Google is probably smarter than that. Besided my idea involved a user agent switcher and I couldn't find the correct user agent for Chrome + ChromeOS on a Chromebook.

Any suggestions, solutions to my dilemma? Posted here because I got nowhere asking in the Random thread.

Haha I knew it! I knew there had to be some bs such as some kind of hardware based encryption or something inbuilt in the OS that would thwart such a simple method to bypass their protection. Oh no Google wouldn't be so stupid to overlook changing your user agent to bypass their protections. Only way is to download, strip drm I guess. If there's some way to access the location where movies are stored. Doesn't Netflix use some kind of technology to prevent recording the stream with screen recording software?

I wouldn't doubt Google play has employed something similar. My only other option is emulating Android in a VM. The issues I had with that is it was tedious to boot a VM w/ Android. That's not accounting the fact I couldn't really expand the video full screen, didn't look too good on my monitor and I had sound issues.

For some reason running Android x86 x86_64 in a VM was a laggy experience. It wasn't a feasible workaround. Morons at Google should just allow to download and watch offline on PC. I would've expected an uproar about this but most purchasing movies/shows are likely sporting high-speed, unmetered broadband connections. We know their excuse and it's obviously anti-piracy related. I realized recently I may be able to watch my Google Play purchases through Youtube.

If that's the case and unless they have some system in place to protect against it I may be able to download a video downloader extension to 'grab' the video from Youtube. I simply can not stream video.

I was watching the first episode of American Horror Story: Hotel I got from Google Play and was viewing through Youtube. I had the player set to 480p, within just under a half hour it ate through over a gigabyte of our data cap. The Google Play player does not appear to offer any controls to reduce quality, bitrate and is lacking on other aspects. I wonder, do these morons think they are pushing people towards piracy or at least bypassing drm and protection mechanisms? This seems highly questionable and likely illegal. Apparently Bluestacks is trying to force me to pay to run the Play Store and Google Play Movies, Music & TV app. I was able to install it, run it a couple times and now it's nagging me to pay to use these.
